The Constitution Act, 1982, made several fundamental changes to the British North America Act (BNA). It "patriated" the earlier document by creating an amending formula whereby the Constitution could be changed by agreement between the federal and provincial governments. It also included the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
